Esusu Pledges Up to $1 Million in Rental Relief to Support Renters Impacted by Government Shutdown

As the government shutdown stretches into record-breaking territory, millions of Americans are feeling its weight. Across the country, families are missing paychecks, SNAP benefits, and childcare assistance. For many, that means difficult tradeoffs between rent, food, and medicine—decisions no one should have to make.

At Esusu, we believe that housing is the foundation upon which every other form of opportunity rests. When that foundation cracks, everything else begins to fall away. In moments like this, our role is clear: to act. That is why we are committing up to $1 million through the Stable Home Fund, our nonprofit partner, to provide zero-interest, no-fee loans for renters impacted by the shutdown. These funds will help families remain housed while federal operations are suspended. Once the government reopens and back pay is restored, recipients can return the funds so they can be recycled to assist other families–this is shared resilience.

We have walked this path before. In the COVID-19 era, as incomes evaporated and eviction moratoria expired, we worked hand-in-hand with landlords and renters to preserve housing stability across the nation. The lesson from that season remains: when we act with speed and compassion, we can transform short-term crises into long-term trust.

This Veterans Day reminds us that service takes many forms. Yes, we honor those who have worn the uniform—but we also honor the millions who keep our country running quietly each day: federal employees, teachers, public health workers, postal clerks, park rangers. Many now face uncertainty through no fault of their own. They, too, serve. And their stability is the measure of ours.

“We started Esusu with a simple conviction: where you come from should never determine where you end up,” said co-founders and co-CEOs Wemimo Abbey and Samir Goel. “In moments like this, when working families are carrying the burden of uncertainty, we have a duty to show up with solutions that honor their resilience and protect their homes. Housing stability is not just an outcome—it’s the starting point for opportunity.”

Eligible renters within the Esusu ecosystem can apply directly through the Stable Home Fund portal for loan assistance. For those outside our network, we have curated additional resources for food, healthcare, and financial counseling available at esusurent.com.

This moment calls on all of us–partners, landlords, and financial institutions–to meet hardship with humanity. When we protect housing stability, we protect the very infrastructure of community.

Because when families remain housed, hope remains within reach. And that is how we build a stronger, more equitable America—one home, one act of solidarity at a time.
