Resident Resources

Resources for navigating the Government Shutdown
As we enter the final stretch of October, the nation faces an unsettling milestone. The ongoing government shutdown is verging on the longest in U.S. history, impacting critical services and casting a long shadow over the holiday season. For millions of working families, the impact is immediate and personal: delayed paychecks, frozen benefits, and rising uncertainty at a time when every dollar already stretches thin.
As a result of the shutdown, the U.S. government has paused funding for some federal agencies until new legislation is approved. J.P. Morgan’s guide provides more information on how shutdowns affect the economy.
Here’s what to know:
- Federal workers: Some may see delayed paychecks or be furloughed. If this impacts your residents, they can check whether their bank or credit union offers temporary relief or paycheck advance programs.
- Travelers: National parks are closed during a government shutdown, and TSA or flight delays could happen.
- Renters: Automatic rent reporting continues helping credit stay strong even during uncertainty.

Resource Spotlight: Findhelp
Supporting your residents with access to emergency food resources
We want to ensure your residents have immediate, practical options to access emergency food support. If residents’ SNAP benefits are delayed or disrupted in November, Findhelp offers a free and simple way to find emergency food pantries and programs quickly.
Findhelp is a national social care network where anyone can search by ZIP code to find free or reduced-cost local support such as food, housing, and healthcare. Through our partnership, Esusu makes Findhelp available directly in the Esusu App, so residents and property teams can locate trusted resources in minutes.
How residents can find emergency food resources:
1) Open the Esusu App and log in.
2) Click the Toolkit tab and select Findhelp.
3) Enter your ZIP code and choose the Food category.
4) Choose a subcategory like Food Pantries or Emergency Food.
5) Select a program to view eligibility, hours, and contact details, then call or check the website before visiting.
Recommendations for supporting residents through the shutdown:
- Post a lobby flyer or portal announcement to download the Esusu App.
- Send residents an email or text with the steps above, customized with your community’s ZIP code.
- Keep a short “Top 5 local food resources” list at the front desk or resident portal for quick reference.
